Sonia's Story
I began making masks in March 2020 for friends, family, Humber River Regional Hospital, my nephew and his colleagues who work in construction, then the North York Harvest Food Bank.
My family initially came up with the idea for me to sell the masks to raise money for charity. Beginning in July, I started selling them, with the proceeds going to Villa Leonardo Gambin while continuing to sew them for the Food Bank. To date I have sewn over 2300 masks, almost 700 for VLG, raising over $6,000.00 for the charity. The money was donated in memory of our mother, Armida Chiesa Vigutto, a member of the Famee Furlane.
My family and friends were a huge help. They took orders, made deliveries, and donated fabric and thread. I pay for all the materials myself, so 100% of the money received is donated to VLG. The sewing kept me away from the TV and gave me something positive to focus on.
